Since 2012, Wild at Heart Rescue has been a sanctuary of healing for Mississippi’s wildest and most vulnerable creatures—from baby raccoons and bobcats to pelicans and owls. Founded by Missy Dubuisson, a lifelong animal rescuer whose journey began with shoeboxes and nanny goat milk, our mission has always been clear: to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wildlife while educating our community about coexistence and conservation.
Want to make a difference? Here are 5 ways you can be a better wildlife animal supporter today:
1. Support Local Wildlife Rescues Financially 💸
Every animal we rescue—from the tiniest squirrel to the most majestic raptor—requires food, medicine, housing, and professional care. As a nonprofit run entirely by volunteers, monetary donations are our lifeline. Whether it’s a one-time gift or a recurring contribution, every dollar helps us give these animals a second chance at life.

2. Donate Supplies From Our Wishlist 📦
We always need essentials like towels, blankets, paper products, animal food, and cleaning supplies. Items like heating pads (without auto-shutoff) and unflavored Pedialyte are invaluable to our rehab efforts.
Before donating, check with us to make sure your items are needed—we want nothing to go to waste! You can also view our updated wishlists on our social media channels.
3. Volunteer Your Time and Talents 🙌
We aren’t just looking for animal handlers (though we love them too!). Whether you're a carpenter, grant writer, event planner, photographer, or someone willing to fold laundry and write thank-you notes, your time can be a lifesaving gift.
Interested in volunteering? Get in touch—we’ll find a role that fits you.
4. Educate Yourself and Others 📚
One of the most powerful tools in conservation is education. Wild at Heart conducts annual programs in schools and communities to spread awareness about local wildlife, the dangers they face, and how we can help protect their habitats.
Follow our Facebook page to learn more and share our posts to educate your own network. You never know who might be inspired to act.
5. Coexist With Wildlife Respectfully 🌿
Many of the animals we rescue are hurt by human interference—whether through litter, habitat destruction, or unnecessary handling. Learn how to safely coexist with the wildlife around you. Don’t attempt to raise wild animals on your own. When in doubt, call us first.
We also work directly with local law enforcement and government agencies to help the community respond responsibly to wildlife concerns.
At Wild at Heart Rescue, we believe every creature has value and deserves a fighting chance. By taking just one of these steps, you’re becoming part of a legacy of compassion and conservation that stretches far beyond our enclosures and into the wild future of Mississippi.
🦉🐾 Be wild at heart. Support the mission.
